This oyster bar plays with the contrasts of narrow and spacious. The size constraints of the old church basement left little room for a generous bar in the heart of central Stockholm. Instead of focusing on making the big spaces bigger, the narrow corridors between the rooms became smaller. I imagined walking through a small hallway full of coats and jackets to then be able to breathe once you’ve emerged.
That initial sketch stayed with me through the entire process where I made several fabric tests to get the right texture and sound. To enhance the feeling of being at sea, all walls are covered with dark blue raincoat fabric and the floors in the classic circled rubber floor used in fishing boats.
